This post is not very interesting…

I’m letting you know that this post is not very interesting right up front because I don’t want anyone to feel stiffed. You see, I’ve been trying to get posts tagged with Technorati tags to actually be indexed by Technorati, and it hasn’t worked, so I’m trying a couple of tests here.

So, about a week ago I bought an external, USB 2.0 HDD produced by . I’d had it for about 5 days when the HDD’s arm got stuck and started making the clicks of death. Needless to say, I wasn’t thrilled about this, as failure that quick is really disappointing. I was a bit heartened by the ease of getting technical support. I’ll be shipping it off to them today with my RMA number, and they’ll hopefully be shipping me a new one very quickly as well. As long as the next one doesn’t die like that, I think we’ll all be okay in the end.

The next trick is to see if this shows up on Technorati under the tag “Fantom Drives”. If it does, then I think I’ve started to have an idea what the problem might be. We’ll see.

[...] Anyone who’s read this blog before may notice a few changes in the way it’s working. This is because a few things that I was going were cause problems with other things. I was using a really nifty script/modified theme page, and then a really nifty plugin, to include comments on the main page in a dropdown menu, but both the options were causing problems with my html validation. This may come back as I have time to try to validate the html that these things produce, I don’t know. The html validation problems were suspect in creating other problems, specifically in getting my technorati tags indexed. Well, even after fixing the validation problems, I wasn’t getting my tags indexed, and it seems there’s something about the way the plugin I was using to index my tags was working that was causing things not to work like I wanted them to. So, I’ve switched to a new plugin for technorati (I still use the autometa plugin for generating meta keywords). I’m using Ultimage Tage Warrior now, and it seems like it generates tags that will be properly indexed. While working on this problem today, we noticed an odd noise coming from the computer, so I opened her up and, while I couldn’t locate the source of the noise, I did find that my hard drives were burning hot. I’d recently installed a second hard drive, and it seems that the space available in which to mount it just packed things too closely together, so I had to remove it and put it somewhere else in the case, unmounted, and I’m hoping that will avoid any heat-related HDD failures. This would, of course, happen while the external HDD that I would like to keep all my vital data on is being RMAd because it failed 5 days after I got it. The link there is to the post I mentioned that in. Oh well. I’d better end this post and get back to trying to find someone to lead the church choir tomorrow in my place, because I’m hoping to be out of town.
